How does your donation help people with epilepsy?

information, counselling, employment services, public awareness & social action

Here are just some of the ways you improve the lives of people with epilepsy when you make a donation to Epilepsy Toronto.

Children: Having seizures at school is never easy. The child comes out of the seizure only to find other kids staring, laughing or looking on with horrified faces. In some cases, the teacher does not know what to do, and consequently offers no comfort. Suddenly the child feels misunderstood and alone. He dreads returning to school the next day, just in case...

Epilepsy Toronto offers much needed counselling and support to assist a child with self-esteem issues. We also provide opportunities for kids with epilepsy to meet one another thereby reducing the feeling of isolation. Seminars given to teachers and classmates throughout the year, are crucial in promoting a better understanding of epilepsy and reducing the stigmatization that plaques children with this disorder.

When a child with epilepsy needs help, we deliver.

Adults: A busy mother of two, has just had a seizure out of the blue. Suddenly, her world is turned upside down. She wonders how her children and husband will react to her seizures. Her neighbour who witnessed the seizure no longer allows his child to stay for visits to play with her children, out of fear and misunderstanding. She worries about the future, not knowing if she will have more seizures, and push others, including her family, away. This mom needs help.

Epilepsy Toronto can offer one-on-one support to this mother and provide counselling and intervention for this family. We can equip her with the information to explain epilepsy to neighbours and friends so her family is never excluded because of her disorder.

We help individuals and families live well with epilepsy.

Employment: A man's job is in jeopardy because his boss doesn't understand his disorder or know the easy ways to accommodate him. His well-being, and that of his families, depends on his employment. His employer doesn't have the facts about epilepsy and is making decisions based on fear —decisions that affect this family and have real consequences. Epilepsy Toronto will advocate on his behalf and work with the employer to facilitate understanding of epilepsy and offer practical suggestions on ways to accommodate the employee.

We offer practical help to ensure that people with epilepsy gain and maintain the rewarding employment they deserve.

Help people with epilepsy in your community and please donate today.
